On Thursday 13 June, the finals of the VU Dream Teams will take place.

Full of pride, they will show what they managed to achieve last academic year. For example, the VU Vital Dream Team interviewed VU staff to find out their biological age through a number of physical and cognitive tests. These included the spirometer, tanita scale, VO2 sub max and a memory test. The enthusiasm among VU employees was enormous. The measurements are compared with the expected biological age and next academic year the next team will take this further.

The Foodwaste team has been busy with food waste at VU this year. Think of the restaurant, but also leftover food after an event or meeting. Here, they worked closely with FCO and the Green Office.

Among other things, the Burning Lowlands team has been researching down prescribed burning and Dream Team PULSE Racing is working on mobility and vitality of cross-legged athletes through Functional Electrostimulation (FES) and is currently preparing to enter the Guiness Book of Records!

Be sure to come and have a look at the final presentations Thursday, 13 June.
Location: Almazaal (10th floor OZW building), time: 14.45-16.30h

In a Dream Team, you will make a social impact and develop your personal and professional skills.

You will be part of a team of 8 to 14 undergraduate and graduate students from different programmes and with a wide range of skills. You will complement and strengthen each other, push your boundaries and grow not only academically but also personally and socially. In short, you develop ‘A Broader Mind’.

This year there are four Dream Teams:

VU-Vital
Improving the physical and mental health of students and staff, thereby reducing biological age. How old are you really?

Burning lowlands
Think about how we can protect nature, farms and residents, increase biodiversity and ensure our safety from destructive fires.

Reduce food waste
Think about how you can make VU students and staff aware of food waste and encourage them to make better choices.

PULSE Racing
Improve the mobility and vitality of people with spinal cord injuries using Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES). Participate in next year’s Cybathlon, an international competition where talented parathletes use advanced robotics to compete for a gold medal.

Do you have a question for one of the Dream Teams? An idea on how you can contribute? Want to join one of the teams next year, or just want to stay informed? We’d love to hear from you! Send an email to dreamteams@vu.nl and we will get back to you.
